DETAILS ON WORSHIP SERVICES
Sunday, January 4, 2009 4 PM - Choir Practice 5 PM - Worship Service 7 PM - DRUM CIRCLE (see info below)
Spirituality: Life and Work Balance Presented by David Newman
Most people engage with more attention to celebrations and
destinations than to their potential for spiritual abundance in life
through meaning at work. In the new 21st century, valuing the common
good and connecting spiritual stewardship is the priority of the green
revolution, corporate boards of directors and job seekers alike. This
presentation offers insights to discover and reconcile musings about
career restlessness, retirement, and other life transitions to develop
pathways to greater fulfillment to your own spirituality, life and work
through ten easy steps forward.
Sunday, January 11, 2009 4 PM - Choir Practice 5 PM - Worship Service "Articulating Our UU Faith" - Presented by Ken Elias and class participants.
This program will summarize the highlights of our Adult Education course last summer on how to share our faith in a positive way with others. Many UUs are loathe to "proselytize" but the truth is that many people would love to learn more about our healing message that promotes fights against religious divisiveness, promoting both world and inner peace.
Sunday, January 18, 2009 5:00 PM - Worship Service Capital Punishment- Presented by Bob Bacon 6:45 PM - Worship Team meets after potluck. General Assemblies of the Unitarian Universalist Association have
repeatedly opposed capital punishment by resolutions since 1961. Come learn what is going on about this issue today. Robert "Bob" Bacon practices law in Oakland. Since 1990, the largest part of his practice has been post-conviction representation of death-sentenced prisoners. He is a member of First UU Church of San Francisco, chair of the UUA Board of Review (an appeal board for cases of serious clergy misconduct), and is on the national board of UU's for Alternatives to the Death Penalty.
Sunday, January 25, 2009 4 PM - Choir Practice 5:00 PM - Worship Service Marriage Equality presented by April Hill. Think Proposition 8's passage has settled the issue of Same Sex Marriage? Think again! Come learn about efforts to undo the discrimination.

POSTSCRIPT - Celebrating HumanLight - The eight year old Humanist secular holiday HumanLight is held every year on or near December 23, between the winter solstice and Christmas. Because humanists don't have a bible or religious doctrine, there's no right or wrong way to celebrate, but usually it involves singing and candle lighting to highlight reason and human achievement. Humanists have a vision of a good future in which people identify with each other, behave with the highest moral standards and work together toward a happy, just and peaceful world. Should we celebrate this next year? For more info: www,humanlight.org
